Hunter Sallis trending away from Kentucky?

Kentucky was viewed as the favorite for the top-10 recruit.

The Kentucky Wildcats are not off to a great start in the 2020-21 season with their 1-5 record.

On the recruiting side of things, however, John Calipari and his staff have been doing a great job building for the future with Daimion Collins, Bryce Hopkins and Nolan Hickman signed for next year, while Skyy Clark is committed in the 2022 class.

Unfortunately, a 2021 guard that was trending towards Kentucky seems to now be trending towards another school.

Hunter Sallis is the No. 7 overall player in 2021 and the No. 2 combo guard.

Back in early October, Kentucky had emerged as the favorite with North Carolina viewed as the second-place team.

But on Tuesday, two experts at 247Sports — Travis Branham and Jerry Meyer — logged Crystal Ball predictions for Sallis to end up with the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

If the Cats do miss out on Sallis, they are still in play to potentially land Jaden Hardy. Group that with the possibility of Skyy Clark reclassifying, a sophomore season from Devin Askew, and Nolan Hickman coming in, and the Cats should be in good shape in the backcourt.

And if one of those falls through, Kentucky could pursue a transfer guard with the NCAA expected to pass the one-time transfer rule for the 2021-22 season, so there should be plenty of backcourt options for Kentucky.

The good thing with Sallis is he’s not expected to decide until the spring, so Kentucky still has time to get back in the lead. But if nothing else, it’s clear now that Gonzaga is a serious threat for the five-star guard.
