Kentucky Dad Podcast with WDRB’s Aaron Matas

Local Sports Director and proud Dad joins the show to chat about fatherhood

Aaron Matas

After taking a few weeks off. the Kentucky Dad Podcast was back in full force this weekend with a terrific guest.

Aaron Matas, Sports Director at WDRB in Louisville, joined me to share stories about his career working in sports media along with the challenges of balancing his responsibilities as a father to his three children — Winter, Aspen and Canyon.

Originally from Minnesota, Aaron has spent time in various parts of the country covering local athletics and polishing his skills as a storyteller. He detailed his love of hockey and we both drooled over the soon to be released new version of Disney’s The Mighty Ducks.

Now acting in his role as a Sports Director in a town like Louisville, he fully acknowledges the passion and vigor that the residents of this state put into their allegiance to both the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.

Aaron and I had more direct sports conversation on this episode than we ever have before during a recording of the Kentucky Dad Podcast. It just seemed imperative to take advantage of the opportunity and get Aaron’s perspective on the current state of UK basketball. He’ll be on site at the YUM! Center when the Cats take on the Cards this Saturday so we chatted a bit about our expectations for that game and beyond.

We were having such a good time that I failed to razz Aaron too much for being an Indiana Hoosier graduate. It was also good idea to avoid this topic considering things aren’t exactly going fantastic in the Big Blue Nation. Next time I’ll get in a candy strip jab.

Regardless, there was some great insight provided on what Aaron thinks may be ultimately impacting this Kentucky team and what to expect from the big rivalry game that’s now just a few short days away.

Without spoiling it I’ll just say that a world-class fictional Dad was brought up for the first time and after hearing it I’m not sure how it was ever missed to begin with.

Tune in to hear what TV/Movie Dad Aaron mentioned and to hear our lame as ever Dad Joke.

Big thanks to WDRB’s Aaron Matas for taking some time out of his busy schedule to drop some knowledge in relation to his impressive career in the world of sports journalism along with passion to provide for his family.
