The Kentucky Wildcats drop their second game of the season, this one to Kansas, in what was just an overall awful game. Both as a viewer and as a fan of Kentucky.
For the second straight game, Kentucky rolls out a dysfunctional offense that seemed to have no clue what they were doing whenever they had the ball. One issue that is glaring is that they have no true point guard to run the offense, Askew struggled mightily and Mintz is better as an off-ball guard.
Isaiah Jackson was the best player to grace the court tonight for the Wildcats, putting up almost ten blocks and was on triple-double watch.
BJ Boston seemed to disappear and UK’s stars were a total no-show all night long in their first big-stage game.
Calipari has to get an offense figured out FAST, or this could end up being ugly.
Kentucky shot 3/21 from behind the three point line.
Here is what Twitter had to say:
No. 7 Jayhawks hold off No. 20 Kentucky, 65-62

I never thought I'd see Cal going to Jacob Toppin. Called elbow on that possession to give Toppin room to work. Big minutes from him.

My God, that's eight blocks for Jackson.
— Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_ATH) December 2, 2020
Now 7 points, 12 rebounds, 8 blocks.
Coach Cal threw his clipboard when Dontaie Allen missed that three.

I think Eddie Gran running this offense

Jacob Toppin is Obi Toppin's brother: 2

Kentucky 3-pointers: 1
Gonna be close.
@IJackson22 that boy nice

Holly Rowe, on KU’s Garrett: “He’s been under the weather, you’ve got to love how he’s fighting through that.”
— Eric Crawford (@ericcrawford) December 2, 2020
Dick Vitale: “He’s very courageous.”
Are you kidding me? That kid would be sent home from any office or school in the country. You don’t “have to love it.”
This is not an original thought, but:

It's fuggin' insane that Marcus Garrett is playing, right?
Isaiah Jackson has set a new school record for most blocks by a player against an AP Poll Top 10 ranked opponent (8) (record was 7, by Andre Riddick against #1 Arkansas on March 12th, 1994 in the SEC Tournament Semifinals)

UK’s point guard play is incredibly concerning. Plenty of time to get better but they’re as far off as a backcourt has been since 2013.

BJ Boston and Terrence Clarke are now 0-19 on the season from threes
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) December 2, 2020
Well, that was hard to watch.
— Michael Eaves (@michaeleaves) December 2, 2020
All preseason we said this team would be very good if Boston and Clarke are as good as advertised. That hasn't happened so far.
— Shawn Smith (@gbbcountry) December 2, 2020
Kentucky made 3 of 31 3-pointers in these back-to-back losses. It's two star freshmen, BJ Boston and Terrence Clarke, have missed all 19 treys they've taken this season.
— Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_ATH) December 2, 2020
Nope. Not going to get it done.
Boston has a whole lot of Archie Goodwin in him.
— Bryan the Intern (@BryantheIntern) December 2, 2020
Kansas shot 29.9 percent for the game, 28.1 percent in the second half, and only two Jayhawks made field goals after halftime ... and they won.
— Ben Roberts (@BenRobertsHL) December 2, 2020
Kentucky is shooting 9% from three point range on the year
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) December 2, 2020
9%
Kentucky has a higher COVID rate
— Drew Franklin (@DrewFranklinKSR) December 2, 2020
Too timid with the basketball. Shot selection. That’s the problem right now!
— Corey Williams (@WILDCATCOREY) December 2, 2020
At least Duke lost
