After a scheduling change, the Kentucky Wildcats are now set to face off with the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday in Cleveland.
Unfortunately, we now have a worrisome development, as John Calipari told the media during his press conference on Thursday that Kentucky has been down a few players in practice throughout this week.
However, Calipari did not name who has been out or the specific reasoning for them being out, but it has resulted in the team not being able to scrimmage.
“We’ve gotten better,” Calipari said on Thursday. “We haven’t been able to scrimmage the last couple days. We’ve had some guys out with some stuff, but the guys that were there got better.”
Calipari was then asked if those players would miss the North Carolina game Saturday.
“I hope not...We’ll see. We need guys to practice today. We’ve gotta scrimmage some today. We’ve gotten a lot done, but we’ve got to go up and down a little bit to get the flow of the game a little bit.”
This is not the news anyone wanted to hear two day before the Cats face the Tar Heels in a game that is a MUST win for the Cats after a 1-4 start to the season.
Making matters worse is Keion Brooks Jr. is still sidelined with his calf injury and not expected to play Saturday. The last thing Kentucky needs is another key player to be out or limited against a top-25 Tar Heels squad.
Kentucky and North Carolina will tipoff from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse Saturday at 2:00 pm EST, and the game will be aired on CBS. Hopefully, we’ll get to see a game with both teams healthy (outside of Brooks) and able to give it their all.
