It’s been a rough week for the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team after their latest loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. After starting off the season in the top ten, the ‘Cats have tumbled all the way out of the top 25.
And now they welcome into Rupp Arena a short-handed but veteran Notre Dame Fighting Irish team. I talked Jack Nolan, the voice of the Fighting Irish, and he stated that Mike Brey’s team can shoot the three ball and they don’t turn it over at a high clip. Gulp.
John Calipari spoke to the media Friday morning and he didn’t sound like a coach that was confident in his team winning on Saturday. The list of what Kentucky needs to fix is a long one and they’ve had a full week of practice to at least address some of the issues.
I’m hoping that this is the game where Kentucky turns it around. I really do. Because if they don’t it could be panic time. Notre Dame is 1-2 with a hard fought loss against a top 25 Ohio State team. But they only play seven scholarship players and they wear out easily.
For some reason I am expecting a win today. I think Calipari mixes things up at point guard and which players are on the floor together. I think he finds a way to win heading into an important stretch against UCLA and UofL.

In today’s press conference, Brandon Boston Jr. mentioned that he sent an invite to all his teammates to join “The Breakfast Club” but only Cam’Ron Fletcher has accepted. Would think more people would join based off the way the team has played. pic.twitter.com/s42hXcYSNU

I appreciate Brandon Boston, Jr. and Cam’Ron Fletcher trying to lead. Wish the other guys would have followed.
Quickies
Kentucky players need to fix “everything” | Cats Pause- While the turnovers have been a point of emphasis, there is a lot of basketball that needs to be improved.
Players hoping Camp Cal turns things around | UK Athletics- This is usually the time of the year where Kentucky starts to hit an early stride. They need it more than ever in the Calipari Era as this is the worst start since 2000/2001.
John Calipari in favor of playing non-con games | CBS- Coach K made waves by canceling the rest of the non-con season for the Duke Blue Devils. John Calipari wants to honor the games on the schedule.
Recapping Notre Dame’s close loss to the Buckeyes | One Foot Down- The Fighting Irish led most of the game and just reached the end of their rope at the end. They’re a pretty good team.
Drake Jackson returning to UK would be huge | SDS- Drake Jackson has a season of eligibility left but it is doubtful that he returns. He has been excellent for Kentucky as the anchor of that line.
Pitt joins BC in opting out of Bowl Game | ESPN- COVID fatigue is real but one has to think this will be used in negative recruiting.
Alabama announcer to end streak because of COVID | USA Today- Eli Gold will not call his 410th Alabama game this weekend because of a positive COVID result. It appears he is doing well and I hope he recovers completely so he can get back in the booth ASAP.
Women’s college basketball power rankings | CBS- The ladies are 5-0 and are having a fantastic start to the season while missing coach Matthew Mitchell. At least one basketball program is taking care of business.
I will be on the airwaves as soon as Kentucky vs. Notre Dame ends around 2:00 PM. Join in what I hope will be a victorious postgame show.
