The Kentucky Wildcats added a walk-on in Kareem Watkins yesterday.
Watkins is the step-son of one of John Calipari’s first big stars in his coaching career, Dajuan Wagner.
That’s also significant because Wagner’s son, Dajuan Wagner Jr., is the top prospect in the Class of 2023 and Kareem Watkins is his step-brother.
Did the Kentucky coaches bring Watkins on as another means to entice Dajuan Wagner Jr. to come to Kentucky? Who knows. It also should be considered that John Calipari and Dajuan Wagner remain very close, and Calipari has shown a tendency to bring walk-ons on to the roster when they have family connections to Calipari. However, this certainly can be a tool in Kentucky’s recruitment of Wagner Jr.
Of course, a spot on the roster opened up after Issac DeGregorio removed himself from the team about a week ago.
Something worth watching.
