Keion Brooks officially ruled out vs. Morehead State

Brooks is still recovering from a calf injury that’s limited him for several months now.

Kentucky Wildcats forward Keion Brooks Jr. has officially been ruled out for tonight’s season opener against Morehead State, UK announced.

Brooks, who is still recovering from a calf injury suffered sometime in the late summer/early fall, is still listed as day-to-day. Head coach John Calipari said earlier this week that Brooks was unlikely to play in any of the Bluegrass Showcase games.

Since the Cats won’t play again until Sunday vs. Richmond, there’s always a chance he could be back by then, but I imagine Calipari is just hoping the sophomore big man can suit up Tuesday vs. the Kansas Jayhawks in the Champions Classic.

Brooks recently took part in Kentucky’s Pro Day, so he’s clearly not far off from a return to game action. At this point, he may be getting held out to get his conditioning back up to speed before making his 2020-21 debut.

In the meantime, Isaiah Jackson is expected to be the starting 4 with Lance Ware, Cam’Ron Fletcher and Jacob Toppin vying for backup minutes.
