Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball is finally back.
A long 263 days since Kentucky’s comeback victory over Florida that would mark the sudden end to the 2019-20 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wildcats were back in action Wednesday night as they hosted the Morehead State Eagles at Rupp Arena.
Not a single player that played in Kentucky’s last game took the court for the Wildcats Wednesday, as Keion Brooks Jr. missed the game as he recovers from a calf injury.
Despite having 10 new faces play in the season opener, the Cats looked mighty impressive as they cruised to an 81-45 win over the Eagles.
Kentucky hit 33/59 shots (55%), had 18 assists and out-rebounded the undermanned Eagles 37-25. The Cats also blocked six shots and grabbed eight steals while holding Morehead State to 17/50 shooting (34%).
BJ Boston led the way with 15 points, followed by 12 from both Terrence Clarke and Devin Askew. Davion Mintz added 10 off the bench, while Cam’Ron Fletcher was the surprise of the night with nine points, five boards and three assists.
Kentucky’s starters outscored Morehead State 56-23 and out-rebounded them 21-11.
All-time, the Cats are now a perfect 11-0 against their in-state foe.
