Isaac McKneely trims list and UK makes the cut

The top-40 guard has a lot of top programs on his list.

The Kentucky Wildcats have been on a recruiting hot streak lately, and now they have made the top eight for a sharpshooter in the class of 2022.

Isaac McKneely is currently ranked as the No. 57 overall player according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. However, some believe he is already a top-40 player in 2022.

Jake Weingarten of StockRisers reported that McKneely is down to eight schools including the West Virginia Mountaineers, Indiana Hoosiers, Illinois Fighting Illini, Louisville Cardinals, Virginia Cavaliers, Purdue Boilermakers, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Kentucky Wildcats.

As of right now, West Virginia is viewed as the favorite since that is McKneely’s home state and he already has been recruited by them for a while.

In recent months, McKneely has went from a 6-2 guard to 6-4 and has added roughly 20 pounds of muscle as his recruiting stock began to rise. He’s also very athletic and has thrown down some highlight-reel dunks.

Weingarten spoke to McKneely about each of the remaining schools on his list and here is what he had to say about Kentucky who recently got involved in this recruitment.

“Also just getting started with them. They’ve said they really like my game. They are obviously a big-time program, and they really develop their players to get them ready for the next level. So, I think they would be a great option for me.”

Coach Cal is building a reputation of turning lower ranked four-stars into high draft picks (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Tyler Herro for example), and McKneely could be the latest to put his trust in Cal to reach his goals.
