Kentucky down several key starters vs. Vanderbilt

It’s next man up at four positions for the Cats.

Jason Marcum - Sea of Blue

The Kentucky Wildcats are looking to get back on the winning side of things Saturday as they face off against the Vanderbilt Commodores.

There is already a ton of emotions around this game, as the Wildcats just lost offensive line coach John Schlarman on Thursday after a long battle with cancer.

To pile on top of that, the Cats are without four starters as they look to get back in the win column.

DeAndre Square is available to play but did not start the game and it doesn’t look like he will be playing. Also, out for the Cats is left guard Kenneth Horsey, kicker Matt Ruffolo, and All-American punter Max Duffy.

Replacing Square in the starting lineup is junior Marquez Bembry, Chance Poore will be doing the kicking, Colin Goodfellow will be the punter, and Austin Dotson gets the start at guard. Poore, Dotson and Bembry have all logged significant snaps before, but this is the first game action for Goodfellow, a walk-on senior who’s been with the program since 2017.

We will see how the backups step up to the challenge with four key players being out of the lineup today.
