It would appear the Kentucky Wildcats will get another former player onto the roster of the 7-0 Pittsburgh Steelers.
The NFL’s lone unbeaten team after eight weeks, Pittsburgh is already home to former UK greats Benny Snell Jr. and Bud Dupree. Snell has been a solid role player off the bench in just his second professional season, while Dupree has become one of the NFL’s best pass-rushers with 16.5 sacks over his last 22 games. Former UK defensive tackle Calvin Taylor is also on UK’s practice squad.
Now, the Steelers are set to acquire former UK linebacker Avery Williamson in a trade with the New York Jets, according to NFL reporters Manish Mehta, Adam Schefter, and Ian Rapoport.

Trade terms, per source: Jets get Pitt’s 5th-round pick in 2022; Steelers get Williamson and Jets’ 2022 7th-round pick.
Williamson, who is in the middle of his third season with the Jets, has accounted for 50 tackles and one interception in six games this season. He missed all of 2019 with a torn AC following a five-year stretch between the Tennessee Titans (four seasons from 2014-17) and Jets that saw him start in 48 straight games and record 120 tackles during his first year in New York during the 2018 season.
Despite the injury setback, Williamson looked like he hasn’t missed a beat and was well on his way to having another big season with the 0-8 Jets. Now he’ll get to contribute to a team that now looks like one of the NFL’s top Super Bowl contenders.
