Saturday saw Kentucky Wildcats linebacker Chris Oats make his first appearance at Kroger Field since suffering a medical incident several months ago that sidelined him from football indefinitely.
Oats, accompanied by his mother and brother on each side, drew quite the reaction from the crowd at Kroger Field when he was shown on the video board in the first quarter rocking his #22 jersey.
Of course, several Kentucky players have taken turns wearing the #22 jersey on the field this year. Saturday, it was Josh Paschal who had the honor. DeAndre Square, Keaton Upshaw, Jamin Davis, Jordan Wright, and Boogie Watson have worn the jersey this season.
Oats spent almost four months in a rehabilitation facility before was able to return to his home earlier this month.
Several of the Wildcats players came together to organize a GoFundMe designated to pay for medical expenses for Oats and his family. That GoFundMe has raised more than $36,000, which is significant but still short of the $50,000 goal.
