To say Saturday was a rough day for Kentucky Wildcats kicker Matt Ruffolo would be an understatement.
Ruffolo missed a 49-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter of UK’s 42-41 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels Saturday. Then in overtime, he missed an extra point attempt after Terry Wilson scored the go-ahead touchdown.
Needing just a touchdown with the extra point to win the game, Ole Miss would march right down the field before Matt Corral was able to find Elijah Moore in the end zone, and Luke Logan was able to nail the extra point to clinch a victory for Ole Miss.
After the game, Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin took a shot at the UK kicker to put salt in his wound.
“We’ve got to send a Christmas present to their kicker,” Kiffin told reporters via Zoom after the game.
The quote comes as no surprise given Kiffin’s outgoing personality but can’t be one Ruffolo or any Wildcats want to read.
Kiffin is now 2-0 all-time as a head coach with both victories coming in overtime against the Wildcats as he led the Tennessee Volunteers to a 30-24 OT win in Lexington back in 2009.
