3 players to watch vs. Georgia

After a long week of depth chart changes, story lines, and just trying to forget what happened at Missouri last weekend another game day is upon us. Unfortunately the Cats will be welcoming their second toughest opponent to Kroger Field, the Georgia Bulldogs.

If the Cats hope to pull off the upset these are the three players to watch.

Allen Dailey Jr.

We need another receiver to step up. Luckily I think this might be the week we start to see some progress made in the pass game. Obviously, Josh Ali will be WR1, but we need someone to claim that WR2 spot.

DeMarcus Harris was praised all of camp but has struggled with drops. Michael Drennen has started to play more as of late, but getting the start against this defense will be tough.

This is the week Dailey has to take it.

This season through 5 games, Dailey has 6 receptions for 68 yards and 1 touchdown. If the Cats stand a chance to pull off the upset, these numbers have to rise this week.

Dailey is the biggest of the starting receivers for UK. For the Cats to compete against the Georgia defense, they will need him to be physical with his man from the start.

Look for Dailey to be effective early as they will try to get Gatewood going with some short-intermediate throws.

Jordan Wright

For the Cats to compete in all 4 quarters this week, the defense is going to have to continue to play strong.

Stetson Bennett leads an offense that is currently scoring 33 PPG and averaging 418.5 YPG. Pretty impressive numbers on paper but it is an offense that has struggled to find a rhythm from the start.

This is where Jordan Wright could be a difference maker.

Wright this year has totaled 16 tackles, 2 sacks, and an interception. But his pressure off the end has been something to take note of. With a lot of eyes focusing in on Boogie Watson again this week, Wright needs to take advantage.

If the Cats can get a consistent pass rush against a young offensive line of Georgia and keep Bennett out of a rhythm, the Cats could have a chance at the upset.

Joey Gatewood

The biggest news coming into this weekend is Joey Gatewood getting the start at QB with Terry Wilson out with a wrist injury. And what a team to get a start against.

Gatewood this year has seen limited reps. Unfortunately up until last weekend those reps also came in garbage time. How will he stack up against the best of the best defensively in the SEC?

If he can execute consistently in the short and medium throws, and have good reads on the zone read the Cats should be able to fight. If he starts pressing and trying to do to much it could be a long afternoon.

This game has the potential to be another type of game Stoops loves, a defensive grinder. Even if the Cats don’t pick up the win we need to see progress on the offensive side of the ball.

The deck is stacked against them for a win, but if they can find an offensive rhythm (especially in the pass game) if could be a fun one at Kroger Field.
