For the first time since November of 2019, college football will return to Lexington Saturday as the 0-1 Kentucky Wildcats will host the 0-1 Ole Miss Rebels at Kroger Field in their 2020 home opener.
Both the Wildcats and Rebels dropped their season openers, but both teams showed promise in losses to top 10 ranked teams.
UK outgained the No. 8 Auburn Tigers both on the ground and through the air in their season opener, while Ole Miss totaled an impressive 613 yards against the No. 5 Florida Gators.
Ole Miss is in year-one of the Lane Kiffin era as he returns to the SEC after a one-year stint as Tennessee’s head coach in 2009 and serving as Alabama’s offensive coordinator from 2014-16 before landing the head coaching job at Florida Atlantic.
With Kiffin calling the shots, Kentucky’s defense will be tasked with slowing down a dangerous quarterback/wide receiver combo of Matt Corral, who threw for 395 yards and three touchdowns a week ago and Elijah Moore, who made 10 catches for 227 yards.
Despite this, UK enters Saturday as a six-point favorite and will have their home crowd behind them, albeit limited.
