Inconsistency on the offensive end continued for the Kentucky Wildcats during their travel to Missouri. They mustered just three points in the first half against the Tigers, though their defense picked up the slack by holding Missouri to just 10 points in the first half.
After a few series, Kentucky elected to insert backup quarterback Joey Gatewood to try and spark the offense. Of course it was a small sample size, but Kentucky couldn’t gain any traction heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Missouri ran a 21-play opening drive but failed to come away with any points. After a quality stand from their defense, Kentucky offensive coordinator Eddie Gran returned the favor with a three-and-out.
Of course the Wildcats’ defense was absolutely gassed, with Missouri quickly taking advantage by scoring a touchdown on the following drive.
Down 17-3, the Cats responded with a 26-yard scoring strike from Wilson to Josh Ali with 13 minutes left in the game, but those were the final points Kentucky would score. Missouri would tack on a field goal and go on to win 20-10.
After the game, head coach Mark Stoops and several Cats talked about the painful setback in Columbia. Here is a recap of everything they had to say via UK Athletics.
