Former Kentucky Wildcats Anthony Davis and Rajon Rondo aren’t the only two members of the Los Angeles Lakers with former ties to Lexington. Their head coach, Frank Vogel, is a former student manager and assistant video coordinator for Kentucky.
Before he was head coach of the @Lakers, Frank Vogel was a student manager and assistant video coordinator for @KentuckyMBB.

With the university from 1995-1998, Vogel worked alongside both Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith. He saw two national championships and multiple players head on to the NBA. Little did he probably know that he’d be on that way himself in 2001 when he took an assistant coaching job with the Boston Celtics.
After Boston, Vogel made stops with Philadelphia (assistant), Indiana (assistant then head coach) and Orlando (head coach) before landing in LA coaching the best player to lace them up over the last two decades. Now, he’s just three wins away from bringing a purple and gold championship banner to Staples Center. To do so, though, Vogel will have to go through another former video coordinator: Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. Game 2 tips off at 9 pm EST.
