Brandin Podziemski offered by Kentucky and Kansas

Podziemski is suddenly one of the hottest names on the recruiting trail.

UPDATE

The Kansas Jayhawks have become the latest school to offer a scholarship to three-star shooting guard Brandin Podziemski.

I think it’s safe to say Podziemski is going to finish ranked a lot higher than 266th when the final 2021 rankings come out.

The Kentucky Wildcats have a new offer out in the Class of 2021.

Wednesday night, three-star shooting guard Brandin Podziemski announced he picked up an offer from Kentucky. StockRisers’ Jake Weingarten says the offer came today during a virtual meeting with Kentucky’s coaching staff.

CatsPause reporter Chris Fisher adds that Podziemski impressed at the Phenom U/Team Herro combine in Milwaukee earlier this month, so perhaps that’s when he really caught Kentucky’s eye.

Podziemski, who plays at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy (WI), is ranked 266th nationally by 247 Sports Composite while being the 54th-best shooting guard and sixth-best recruit from Wisconsin. He also holds offers from Kansas State, Arizona State, Marquette, DePaul and Boise State among others.

And as Weingarten noted, the 6-6, 195-pound Podziemski plays on the AAU team associated with former Wildcats star Tyler Herro.

It’s been a very rare occurrence for Kentucky to offer a three-star recruit under John Calipari. But with the coronavirus wiping out the summer recruiting circuit, guys like Podziemski aren’t getting the chance to show the world what they’re fully capable of against other big-time recruits. Perhaps he’s someone that would have had a major jump in the recruiting rankings had there been a normal summer AAU schedule.

247 Sports recruiting expert Andre Slater seems to share that belief.

And you don’t want to ever put too much stock in YouTube highlights, but watching some of Podziemski’s highlights...let’s just say it’s very hard to see there being 265 players better than him.
