Davion Mintz raises the excitement level of 2020-21 Wildcats

“Definitely elite.”

It won’t be long until we finally get to see the 2020-21 Kentucky Wildcats in action.

In the meantime, several players are meeting with the media to this week in what’s essentially a week-long media day since Covid-19 is preventing there from being an actual media day this year.

On Monday, senior guard and Creighton transfer Davion Mintz was up first to give his take on his new teammates. And he did nothing but raise the excitement level of these Cats, even using the word ‘elite’ to describe this bunch.

This team certainly has the potential to be elite. Not only did Kentucky sign the top-ranked recruiting class — highlighted by top-10 recruits Terrence Clarke and Brandon Boston — they also landed several big-time transfers in Mintz, Jacob Toppin and Olivier Sarr (Sarr and Toppin are applying for waivers to play this season). Kentucky also has a key returnee in Keion Brooks Jr., who could be an all-conference performer in Year 2.

One thing that’s really stood out to Mintz thus far is the length and athleticism of this team. With Jacob Toppin, Lance Ware, Isaiah Jackson and Olivier Sarr all being 6-foot-9+, it’s going to make it very challenging for opponents to score in the paint against this bunch.

You love to hear it.
