The Kentucky Wildcats get their first win of the season against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and boy, was it an ugly one. It even featured the rare 21-2 final score. I have to admit, I did not foresee a Kentucky team holding a Mike Leach offense to 2 points and six interceptions.
The Kentucky defense finally arrived after a poor first two weeks, forcing six interceptions, more than making up for the lack of forced turnovers through the first two games. Joshua Paschal, Kelvin Joseph, Jordan Wright, Jamin Davis, Jamar Watson and D’Eryck Jackson each shared the wealth on the defensive side of the ball.
The offense however, was not up to par as we have seen through the first two games. After putting up 41 points last week, Kentucky struggled to move the ball at all, barely surpassing 150 total yards on the night.
Chris Rodriguez Jr., the highest graded running back in the country last week, also saw a limited amount of touches for some reason.
However, a win is a win, no matter how ugly.
Oh and Joey Gatewood got some clock. That was neat to see.
Kentucky gets Tennessee next week in Knoxville.

Five interceptions by Kentucky's defense are tied for the third most in a single game in school history.

Kentucky came into this game -4 in the TO department. Kentucky is now even after five takeaways and one TO tonight

What a game by our Defense!!!
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) October 11, 2020
Heck of a performance
Seriously, what the hell is this? On what planet is this the right call? https://t.co/3M0fR9aFWT
— Jack Pilgrim (@JackPilgrimKSR) October 11, 2020
I don't understand this play-calling. C-Rod finally gets 2 carries and goes for 10 and 6 then you don't go back to him.

UK receivers have trouble catching Joey Gatewood passes too, apparently.

Freaking love this sport. Mississippi State has two points, five picks, UK's up 21-2 ... and everyone's pissed off.

DB’s read our tweets and said “aight bet”

If that first carry is any indication, JuTahn McClain is going to be a player.
— Shawn Smith (@gbbcountry) October 11, 2020
You're right, this is my fault. It's the first time since 1996 that UK held an SEC opponent without an offensive touchdown. https://t.co/OxcLhDTx73

This season is already hella drunk and I'm here for every bit of it.

So very happy we get to break down one Gatewood pass and one Gatewood rush for the next week.

Mississippi State beat LSU. Kentucky beat Mississippi State. Kentucky deserves to be recognized as the 2019-2020 National Champions.

FINAL: Kentucky 24, Mississippi State 2
— Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_ATH) October 11, 2020
The Wildcats managed just 157 yards of total offense but grounded Mike Leach's Air Raid with six interceptions. If Mark Stoops ever gets his O and D playing well on the same night, he might yet have something in 2020.
UK is 1-2.

Just two games removed from an explosive debut against Mississippi State, Mike Leach’s offense threw 70 times in a game for... 2 points and 275 yards.
