Leach last coached in the SEC as an offensive coordinator for the Kentucky Wildcats under then head coach Hal Mumme. Together, Mumme and Leach installed the ‘air raid’ offense, which broke four NCAA records, 42 SEC records, and 116 school records while it was in play.
Leach took over Washington State back in 2012, turning the program around under his air raid style offense, with four consecutive winnings seasons from 2015-2018. In 2018, Leach, along with quarterback Gardner Minshew, led Washington State to a top-10 finish and finished the season 11-2 overall.
Leach will, almost certainly, be bringing his air raid offense back to the SEC at Mississippi State, which has always been a ground-and-pound team, along with most of the SEC.
