AJ Rose announces he’s returning for senior season

Rose is set to lead UK’s loaded backfield in 2020.

Kentucky Wildcats running back Asim ‘AJ’ Rose has announced he’s returning for his senior season.

This past season, Rose ran for 826 yards on 149 carries (5.5 avg.) and six touchdowns while grabbing 11 balls for 67 yards. He did this while in a three-way timeshare with Christopher Rodriguez and Kavosiey Smoke. That timeshare led to speculation that Rose could look to transfer this offseason to find a team where he’ll be the clear-cut No. 1 back, something he’s good enough to be for a lot of Power 5 teams.

Rose came to UK as a three-star recruit from Garfield Heights High School in Ohio in the Class of 2016. After redshirting his first year and being hampered by injury in 2017, Rose stepped up in 2018 to serve as a solid backup for all-time Kentucky great Benny Snell. He carried the ball 71 times for 442 yards and five touchdowns while catching eight balls for 82 yards and a score.

For his career, Rose has rushed for 1,305 yards (5.6 avg.) and 11 touchdowns while catching 20 passes for 150 yards and a score.
