Kentucky already boasts the #1 recruiting class in the nation, and there is a good chance more names will be added to the roster before it’s all said and done.

The Cats securing another commitment from a frontcourt player is clearly a priority for John Calipari and his coaching staff.

But the coaches aren’t the only ones doing some recruiting. UK’s incoming freshman are getting in on the action too.

Kentucky commit Devin Askew played at the Hoophall Classic this weekend while John Calipari watched courtside. He had a solid game with 20 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds in a one-point loss at the prestigious event. But it was his off court comments that will catch the attention of Kentucky fans.

Askew spoke with Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog and about his efforts to get a couple of big-time players to join him in Lexington. Greg Brown and Cliff Omoruyi are two of the best remaining front-court options in the class of 2020 and getting either player would be a monster way for Kentucky to round out this class.

His message to Brown and Omoruyi?

“My message to any big is it’s going to be a fun time.”

Askew’s confidence and personality are seemingly going to be a great fit in Lexington. His desire and ability to distribute the basketball should set up easy baskets for his teammates. The five star point guard can sell the dream of coming to Kentucky because he clearly believes in it himself.

“If you want to go out and work hard every day and if you truly love basketball, what better place is there to be at than Kentucky?” Askew told Adam Zagoria.

Kentucky will have some stiff competition to land Greg Brown and/or Cliff Omoruyi. Many of the nation/s top programs are after them. No matter how it turns out, it’s nice to know that Devin Askew is doing his part before even arriving on campus.
