UCLA Bruins big man, Shareef O’Neal, has announced his departure from the Bruins’ program, via his twitter:

O’Neal sat out last season for UCLA after heart surgery. O’Neal previously committed to Arizona but de-committed after the pay-for-play scandal broke. He then committed to play for Steve Alford at UCLA, who was fired after last season, thus leading to Mick Cronin taking over.
O’Neal was, at one time, seen as a major target for the Kentucky Wildcats and some thought that O’Neal might eventually land up in Lexington due to his fathers love for Coach Cal. Kentucky actually held 58% of the crystal ball votes for Shareef back in his junior season of high school.
With O’Neal leaving UCLA, Kentucky and Coach Cal could make another push at O’Neal and get him on campus for next season, especially with the anticipation of both Nick Richards and EJ Montgomery leaving after this season.
Just something to maybe keep an eye on.
