The Auburn Tigers just picked up a huge commitment in the Class of 2020, and it came from a long-time UK target.
Five-star point Sharife Cooper just committed to Auburn. He also held offers from the Wildcats, Florida Gators, Tennessee Volunteers, UCLA Bruins and Maryland Terrapins among others.
Cooper stands at 6-feet tall and is electric on the offensive side of the ball with his quickness and ability to score at all three levels.
UK had been heavily pursuing Cooper, trying to nail down a top PG for the 2020 class. However, recent reports said that UK had stopped reaching out to Cooper, as it appeared UK either didn’t feel good about landing Cooper or they felt great about landing another point guard.
Turns out, UK is in great shape with Devin Askew a top-10 recruit in 2021 that may ultimately move into 2020. They’re also still in the mix for Cade Cunningham, though he’s expected to pick Oklahoma State.
Auburn has been in the lead with Cooper for quite some time, and the crystal ball had the Tigers at 100% before he committed. So it’s no surprise that he ended up with the Tigers.
It will be interesting to see how John Calipari handles the point guard situation moving forward if Askew stays in 2021 and/or commits to Louisville.
