BJ Boston, Terrence Clarke, Lance Ware, and Cam’Ron Fletcher have committed to play basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats in the 2020-2021 season, giving Kentucky the No. 1 class in the country. That is a load of talent in one group, and there are several big fish out there.
Cade Cunningham is likely the primary target of John Calipari and his staff right now. Once thought a done deal to Oklahoma State, it has become clear that his recruitment is open and Kentucky has definitely made him a priority. With the likely departures of Tyrese Maxey and Ashton Hagans after next season, Cunningham would be the perfect guy to step into the point guard rotation with Immanuel Quickley in 2020.
Isaiah Todd was thought a Kentucky lean for a long time, and the Wildcats desperately need another big man in the class. But a recent prediction by Corey Evans indicates that Todd may be destined for North Carolina. While that is certainly not good news, I would not count Calipari out.
Another frontcourt target in the class is Cliff Omoruyi. Omoruyi is more of a raw talent, but the Wildcats are certainly interested as he holds an offer from Kentucky and the coaching staff recently visited him.
Calipari also recently went to Michigan to visit power forward Isaiah Jackson. Jackson is a name that Kentucky fans have really started to hear more recently. He would be a great pickup, as the No. 25 player in the class. And he may be a guy to add depth to the frontcourt for a few years to come.
The highest ranked target outside of Cunningham in 2020 is Greg Brown, who is No. 8 in the class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Brown is a stud that would potentially give Kentucky one of its best classes ever if he were to commit.
Perhaps the next commitment could come from a guy in the 2021 class, however. Kentucky has tried to get Devin Askew to jump to 2020, and although that looks unlikely, they are still making him a priority sooner rather than later. It seems to be a battle between Kentucky and Louisville for the top point guard in 2021, and a commitment should happen this fall.
