Devin Askew has set an official visit to Kentucky.

According to Corey Evans, the visit will take place next weekend.

Askew is a combo guard out of Mater Dei high school that is a highly coveted player in the class of 2021 for multiple high-profile programs. He is currently ranked 10th overall in 2021 by 247 Sports composite.

The Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals are currently in an in-state rivalry for Askew while Arizona, Villanova and Memphis are all vying for his commitment as well. Askew is also a possible reclassification to the class of 2020.

The Cardinals seemed to be the slight leader for him as of now after multiple visits back and forth between the two, while 247 Sports recruiting expert Andrew Slater recently logged a prediction for Louisville.

Had Akew just made his decision sooner rather than later, it’s safe to say he would’ve ended up on Chris Mack’s squad since the five-star guard has yet to visit Kentucky, so this upcoming trip is huge for the Wildcats.

Kentucky has plenty of guards for the near future, but that could change in a blink. Whether Askew reclassifies to 2020 or stays in for 2021, it’s safe to say Ashton Hagans, Tyrese Maxey, and Immanuel Quickley won’t all still be on the roster at that point. The Wildcats would be able to use Askew at both guard spots, regardless of who is still in the backcourt.

Securing a commitment from Askew would help stabilize any empty guard spots in the future for the Wildcats. With this visit, John Calipari has his shot to make an impression and take a very good prospect away from the Cardinals.
