Sunday Quickies: Moving on from Mississippi State Edition

It’s time to move on and look ahead.

NCAA Football: Kentucky at Mississippi State Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

Well, yesterday’s matchup against Mississippi State certainly didn’t go as we hoped for with the Cats making crucial mistakes, lacking any kind of offensive rhythm, and overall putting forth a performance that we know is less than what this team is capable of.

But today’s a new day and it’s time to move on and keep looking forward, because next Saturday’s game against South Carolina is now even more important.

Kentucky sits at 2-2 (0-2 SEC) and really can’t afford to drop a third consecutive game this season if they hope to hit 7 or 8 wins in the regular season.

But back-to-back losses can be hard to bounce back from, and South Carolina is getting into desperation mode. The Gamecocks were thoroughly beaten by Missouri yesterday by a score of 34-14 and sit at 1-3 (0-2 SEC). A loss in Columbia to Kentucky that puts the Gamecocks at 1-4 would not sit well with the fanbase and Will Muschamp could really start feeling the heat.

Needless to say, Kentucky has to move on past this game and quickly begin focusing on a big matchup next Saturday. A win puts the Wildcats back on track with a bye week before coming back home to take on Arkansas. A loss will leave this team in disarray heading into the bye week.

Remember folks, there’s still time to turn things around and this team still has a lot of talent. I still believe this can be a successful season.
