The Kentucky Wildcats have finalized their 2019-20 basketball schedule.
As usual, it will be a loaded slate from beginning to end, and that’s even truer this year. The Cats open the regular season vs. the Michigan State Spartans in the 2019 Champions Classic. The Spartans are the favorites to win it all next season and will be the preseason No. 1 team in the major polls.
Kentucky will end the regular season with an SEC matchup vs. the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Florida is currently a top 10 team in most of the preseason polls, and some actually have the Gators ahead of the Cats.
The non-conference slate also features matchups with the Utah Utes, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Ohio State Buckeyes (CBS Sports Classic), Louisville Cardinals, and Texas Tech Red Raiders (Big 12/SEC Challenge).
The Utah game, which takes place in Las Vegas, is currently scheduled to tip off at 11 pm EST, which would make this one of latest tip times in the John Calipari era.
In SEC play, Kentucky will have its usual six games against its permanent conference opponents — the Florida Gators, Tennessee Volunteers and Vanderbilt Commodores.
Kentucky will also have home and away matchups with the Auburn Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs. Two rounds of defensive menace Ashton Hagans guarding top-three recruit Anthony Edwards will be quite the treat.
The Cats will have home games vs. the Alabama Crimson Tide, Missouri Tigers, Mississippi State Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels.
Also on the road, Kentucky will face the Arkansas Razorbacks, LSU Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas A&M Aggies. Kentucky will open SEC play at home on January 4th against Missouri.
In all, Michigan State, Ohio State, Louisville, Texas Tech, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, LSU and Auburn are preseason top 25 teams in at least one major preseason ranking.
Needless to say, this is another loaded schedule for Calipari and his Cats, but that’s exactly how they like it when they have a title contender like they’re expected to have for the new season. This schedule will definitely ensure they’re as battle tested as possible when the NCAA Tournament begins.
