After the Wildcats reported for fall camp last week, today marked the beginning of the first full week of practice as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
After Monday’s practice, offensive coordinator Eddie Gran and select players met with the media to discuss the state of the offense. The big topic was Isaiah Epps, who suffered a fracture in his foot and will be out for six weeks.
“Isaiah had a small fracture in his left foot,” Gran said. “They put a screw in it, and he’s going to be about six weeks. But the surgery went well, and it looks like that he’ll be back in about six weeks.”
It’s a big loss for an offense that struggled to find a consistent pass-catcher not named Lynn Bowden last year. Epps was someone that was not only expected to start, but also have a breakout season.
Now, Gran is left to search elsewhere, but he’s got one name in mind: Redshirt freshman Bryce Oliver
“He (Oliver) has to (step up),” Gran said. “Coach (Mark Stoops) always talks about next man up. He’s got a great opportunity right now. We’ve gotta have some guys to step up and get into that role. So far, he’s done a nice job.”
Here is a recap of what Gran, quarterback Terry Wilson, receiver Josh Ali and running back Kavosiey Smoke had to say today via UK Athletics:
