The recruiting dominoes for the 2020 basketball class are starting to fall, and Kentucky is in line to potentially pick up some of the top guys left on the board. However, Jalen Green may be headed elsewhere.
Corey Evans of Rivals.com says he “would be surprised if Memphis does not get Jalen Green.” Green is currently the No. 3 player in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He is likely to be ranked even higher if Evan Moberly reclassifies, as expected.
Evans was asked on his weekly “Twitter Tuesday” mailbag about who ends up at Memphis, and Green was the first name that he mentioned. In fact, he believes “Green will play his college ball in a Tigers’ uniform.”
Kentucky has been in the running for Green throughout his recruitment, and he will absolutely be the centerpiece of the class for whoever lands him. The Wildcats currently have commitments from BJ Boston and Cam’Ron Fletcher, and adding Green would secure John Calipari yet another top five recruiting class.
After signing James Wiseman and DJ Jeffries away from Kentucky in 2019, adding a player of Green’s caliber to the 2020 class would solidify Memphis as a true player in the recruiting world. While many Kentucky fans had hoped the 2019 class in Memphis was an anomaly, but another strong class would definitely put college basketball on notice that Penny is a dangerous recruiter.
Green says that plans to make his college announcement on Christmas day, which would be a wonderful Christmas gift for whoever he signs with. But for those other teams that are left on the outside looking in, Green may turn out to be the Grinch.
