The Kentucky Wildcats will be without one of their top defensive lineman for the first two games.

On Monday, head coach Mark Stoops announced that Phil Hoskins will miss the first two games due to an academic issue. That means he’ll miss Week 1 vs. Toledo and Week 2 vs. Eastern Michigan before presumably returning in Week 3 vs. Florida.

A former junior college transfer out of Highland Community College, Hoskins is a senior this year after a productive junior season, where he totaled 21 tackles, 3.5 tackles, 3.0 sacks and one QB hit.

As a JUCO recruit, Hoskins had offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Syracuse, Colorado, Iowa State and Houston among others.

Hoskins was battling for a starting spot in his final season of college football, so this is a tough setback. Hopefully, he returns fresh and ready to roll in Week 3 when the Gators invade Kroger Field.
