The Commonwealth’s top football prospect for 2021 will be finishing his high school carer elsewhere.
Dekel Crowdus of Lexington will be transferring from Frederick Douglass High School to the notorious IMG Academy in Bradenton, he announced on Twitter.
Crowdus is a four-star prospect who’s currently the 188th ranked prospect in the nation for 2021 according to 247 Sports.
The young wideout already has offers from the Kentucky Wildcats, Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, Tennessee Volunteers, Florida State Seminoles, Penn State Nittany Lions and Louisville Cardinals among others.
As the home state school, Kentucky likely would have had a solid chance of reeling in the hometown star. Now, it would appear likely a school such as Florida State or Florida may have the upper hand. Ohio State has also landed six commitments from IMG Academy since 2016, so the Buckeyes will likely be a big player still.
For Crowdus the move to the IMG Academy should really help his development. The school has produced several future college football stars such as Bo Scarbrough (Alabama), Chris Weinke (Florida State), Fabian Washington (Nebraska) and Kellen Mond (Texas A&M).
Despite the move, Crowdus is only a junior in high school, which gives Kentucky plenty of time to try to persuade the Lexington native to come play his college ball in his hometown.
