Joseph’s name entered the portal back on May 20th, but it was gone again by the end of the day after the website was updated. Joseph’s father had told The Advocate at the time that Kelvin was not transferring out of Baton Rouge.
The plans have changed, though, as Kelvin tweeted to announce that his name was officially in the transfer portal the list of six schools he would be looking at, which includes the Wildcats, Florida Gators, Auburn Tigers, Mississippi St. Bulldogs, Grambling State Tigers and Maryland Terrapins.
As a freshman at LSU, Joseph appeared in 11 games at LSU where he recorded 12 tackles to go along with a pass deflection. He was suspended for their Fiesta Bowl win for what was described as a violation of team rules.
The suspension could be the reasoning for his departure, but LSU’s depth at the position is likely another factor. The Tigers have four veterans returning to the secondary with five more freshman defensive backs coming in this season.
Originally a Class of 2018 recruit, Joseph was ranked No. 42 overall nationally by 247 Sports Composite, which measures all of the major recruiting rankings. He held offers from just about every major program, including the Alabama Crimson Tide and Clemson Tigers.
There's a lot of uncertainty in Kentucky’s DB group at the moment with injuries and inexperience throughout the secondary. It’s uncertain when a decision could come or when he would suit up for the Wildcats if Kentucky were the pick, but Joseph’s arrival would only mean good things and some stabilization for Mark Stoops’ defense in future seasons, assuming he’d sit out this year due to NCAA transfer rules.
Here are some highlights of Joseph from his high school days.
