One day after announcing his final five, Daishen Nix has made his college decision.
On Tuesday, Nix committed to the UCLA Bruins. Evan Daniels was the first to report the news.
Nix included Kentucky among his final five, which was announced on Monday, and he was planning to take an official visit to Lexington. But for whatever reason, Nix abruptly decided to pledge to UCLA and end his recruitment before his senior season begins.
Perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Las Vegas product will stay out west for college, but the decision coming this soon is a major shocker.
Kentucky has been recruiting Josh Christopher to potentially play point guard for the 2020-21 season, so unless a new target emerges, that may remain the plan going into the fall.
There’s also the outside chance Kentucky can get 2021 point guard Devin Askew to reclassify into 2020. Askew was mulling over a reclassification before announcing he’ll remain in 2021 earlier this month. He already holds a scholarship offer from Kentucky.
Ideally, Kentucky will have current backup point guard Immanuel Quickley back as a junior for the 2020-21 season, but it’s become a rarity for former five-star recruits to remain in Lexington beyond their sophomore seasons.
