It’s not been a good week for former Kentucky Wildcats.
One day after news surfaced that former basketball Cat DeMarcus Cousins had a torn ACL, it’s been revealed that former football star Avery Williamson suffered the same injury, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport.
#Jets starting ILB Avery Williamson suffered a torn ACL, source said. He had his MRI today and is out for the season. Terrible preseason injury.

Williams, now in his fifth NFL season, suffered the injury in the Jets’ preseason win over the Falcons on Thursday. This is a brutal blow for Williamson, who just signed a three-year, $22 million contract this offseason after a four-year stint with the Titans.
At least Williamson got his first major NFL contract before the injury, but it’s still brutal news nonetheless. His 2019 season is now over before it ever began.
Thankfully, recovery from an ACL tear has gotten better for NFL players over the years, so Williamson could be back to full strength by the time the 2020 season kicks off. Here’s to hoping for a speedy recovery.
