As expected, N’Faly Dante has reclassified for the 2019 recruiting class and committed to the Oregon Ducks, according to Rivals.
Dante, a 6-11, 230-pound center out of Sunrise Christian in Wichita (KS), is a 5-star recruit ranked as the No. 3 center of 2020 and No. 12 overall for the 2020 class, according to 247 Sports composite.
Over the course of his recruitment, Dante has scored offers from the Kentucky Wildcats, Kansas Jayhawks, LSU Tigers and Oregon Ducks among others. However, Oregon and Kentucky had gotten the most buzz recently, though the Ducks appeared to be ahead as the recruitment reached its end.
At the recent Peach Jam, Dante led his Mokan Elite squad to the championship. He finished with 22 points and 18 rebounds in the title game while earning Peach Jam MVP honors.
With grad transfer Nate Sestina being added to the roster to go with the return of Nick Richards and EJ Montgomery, Kentucky’s frontcourt has a lot of potential for next season, but it’s severely lacking the depth needed to survive what hopes to be a 40-game season.
Dante would have been good enough to challenge for a starting spot, but if nothing else, he’d have given Kentucky some much-needed depth and added rim protection.
Alas, Dante becomes the latest 2019 big man to ultimately spurn Kentucky, joining the likes of James Wiseman, Oscar Tshibwe, Vernon Carey, Isaiah Stewart, Jaden McDaniels, Matthew Hurt, Kerry Blackshear Jr. (grad transfer) and Zeke Nnaji.
With this decision, it means Kentucky’s 2019-20 roster is set unless they add another walk-on.
