Remember that unusual story about Bruce Pearl and Auburn taking a self-imposed ban from recruiting?
Well, Pat Forde at Yahoo is reporting that move could actually land Pearl and the AU Basketball program in even more hot water.
In a story published Sunday evening, Forde points out that Auburn’s response could actually magnify some of the issues that took place.
“The ban that supposedly stretched from the Sept. 26, 2017, arrest of assistant coach Chuck Person as part of the nationwide federal corruption investigation until the end of that season, wasn’t exactly ironclad. And if Auburn implemented a compliance policy in direct response to a potentially major NCAA rules violation by a member of its staff, and then flouted its own policy, that could magnify the issues that lie ahead for the basketball program.
Not to mention there are several instances pointed out where it was pretty clear Pearl and the Tigers coaching staff were recruiting, including mention of UK target Sharife Cooper, the 5-star 2020 point guard who has been a heavy Auburn lean but has considered Kentucky.
This was a bit of an unusual story from the start, and it seems that more holes are being poked in it, which can’t be good for Auburn, especially with a Notice of Allegations set to arrive probably any day now.
