Ziaire Williams announces top 7

UK had shown interest, but it wasn’t enough to stay in the running.

You can cross Ziaire Williams off UK’s big board for 2020.

On Saturday, the five-star forward announced his top seven, and the Wildcats did not make the cut. His list is now Duke, North Carolina, Arizona, Oregon, UCLA, USC and Stanford.

UK had been keeping tabs on Williams since the spring, and there was some thought that a scholarship offer could eventually come. After all, the 6-8, 190-pound forward is ranked sixth overall in 2020 by 247 Sports and ESPN, while Rivals has him ranked eighth.

But Williams is projected as a wing in college, and UK just scored a commitment from five-star wing Brandon Boston. That probably took the Wildcats out of the running for Williams, though things could have gotten interesting had UK remained in the hunt, especially with Williams and Boston set to team up at Sierra Canyon.

Alas, Williams is now off the board and is expected to end up at North Carolina or Duke.
