It is July. Zero college basketball games have been played since April, and every single team has new players.
So of course it is time to make assumptions about which teams will be at their best come March Madness of 2020.
Andy Katz recently released his choices for next year’s Final Four, which will take place April 3-6 in Atlanta, Georgia. Although his preseason top four teams include Michigan State, Kansas, Kentucky, and Duke, he believes only two of those squads will be playing basketball in April of 2020.
In his “20 predictions for the 2020 NCAA tournament” post that went up on Tuesday, Katz listed Michigan State, Kansas, Florida, and....Louisville as his Final Four predictions. Yes, you read that correctly. Katz had this to say about these four schools he believes have the best chance to cut down the nets next season:
Michigan State: The Spartans should be the preseason No. 1 — or at least in the top two — with the most experience back at each key position.
Kansas: The return of Devon Dotson, Udoka Azubuike and Silvio De Sousa make the Jayhawks one of the most veteran teams in the country.
Florida: Love this Gators team. Florida added its missing piece in Kerry Blackshear Jr. The return of Andrew Nembhard gives the Gators one of the best lead guards.
Louisville: The Cardinals could have the ACC player of the year in Jordan Nwora. Chris Mack has been close before at Xavier. This could be the year he crosses the threshold to the Final Four.
Kentucky, Seton Hall, and Maryland are later listed as the teams that were “on the cusp” of making the cut for him. Otherwise, his 20 predictions are not very noteworthy. You can check them all out here.
Do you think Florida and Louisville have a better chance than Kentucky at playing in the Final Four?
