Reid Travis and Derek Willis sign with pro teams in Germany

The professional journey begins for Travis.

Two former Kentucky Wildcats are taking their talents overseas after giving it a go in the NBA Summer League.

Reid Travis, coming fresh off of his senior year at Kentucky, got invited to play for the Atlanta Hawks in the summer league. Things didn’t quite pan out for him in the NBA, but his talent will be used elsewhere; Germany.

Travis has signed a contract to play for Medi Bayreuth in the Basketball Bundesliga, a German pro league. He’ll be teaming up with a familiar face in former UCLA Bruins star Bryce Alford. It should be a great experience for Travis as he hopes to have a long professional career.

As for other former Cat, Derek Willis, he just signed a 2-year deal to play for Ratiopharm Ulm in the Basketball Bundesliga, another German pro league.

Willis spent this summer playing Summer League ball for the Phoenix Suns where he averaged 6.7 points and 3.0 boards per game. He’s been playing in Germany over the past few seasons in hopes to make the transition to the NBA, but it hasn’t worked out just yet for him.

I’m sure the Big Blue Nation will continue to keep tabs on both of these players as they move on with their careers. Hopefully, one of them, if not both, can find their way in the NBA one day!
