Brad Calipari announces final 2 schools in his transfer search

The younger Calipari is headed out of state.

Just as Kerry Blackshear, Jr. was announcing his commitment to play for the Florida Gators on Wednesday, the Kentucky Wildcats seemed to officially lose another player.

After a redshirt season and graduating college in three years, Brad Calipari seems to definitely be transferring now, as he announced his final two schools in consideration:

Calipari announced on Wednesday that he will choose between the Detroit Mercy Titans and the Hampton Pirates. Many Kentucky fans hoped he would stay close to home and consider EKU or Northern Kentucky, but it looks like he will be moving to a new state.

Detroit Mercy, obviously in Michigan, finished with a record of 11-20 last season in the Horizon League. They are losing their second leading scorer, Josh McFolley, to graduation, so there is playing time presumably up for grabs.

Hampton, which is located in Hampton, Virginia, went 18-17 in the Big South Conference last season. They are losing two guards, Kalin Fisher and Akim Mitchell, so there are plenty of minutes available there as well.

There is no known timeline for Calipari’s decision, but you would have to think he is eager to get to his new campus and get to work.
