After a two-year journey at UK, PJ Washington is now living the NBA dream.
Washington has been selected 12th overall by the Charlotte Hornets. He becomes UK’s first selection in the 2019 NBA Draft, as was the expectation. He now teams up with former Wildcat stars Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Malik Monk in Charlotte.
This past season, Washington became one of the nation’s most dominant players in his sophomore year. He produced career highs in scoring (15.2 points per game), rebounding (7.5 rpg) and double-doubles (nine).
The former Findlay Prep star scored in double figures in 19 of his final 20 games and 25 overall. During his final 20-game stretch, he shot 53.1 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from 3-point range.
For the season, Washington shot 52.2 percent from the floor and 42.3 percent from 3-point range. He ended his UK career with 932 points, 475 rebounds 120 assists and 74 blocks.
Last year, Washington tested the NBA waters but was projected to be a late second-round pick. Now, he’s a lottery pick that’s set for life.
Good luck to Washington as he begins his NBA career.
