6 Wildcats named to Athlon’s preseason All-SEC teams

The bar is set.

With spring football wrapped up and heading into summer workouts, Athlon Sports is ready to get the college football season started. On Wednesday, they released their preseason All-SEC teams for 2019 based on projections for the upcoming season. Six Kentucky Wildcats made the cut, giving those named, as well as those snubbed, something to strive for this season.

The only first team selection was center Drake Jackson, but the offensive line was well represented as Logan Stenberg was named to the second team and Landon Young made the fourth team. Had Young been able to play last season, I would bet on his selection being significantly higher.

Lynn Bowden made the list at two different positions, as a second team all-purpose offensive player and a third team punter returner. I am sure he will use this lack of a first team selection as motivation for his summer workouts.

The defense is represented by lineman Quinton Bohanna (fourth team) and linebacker Kash Daniel (third team). Since the defensive unit from last season is one of the best ever at the school, it’s up to Daniel and Bohanna to bring the other guys along to make up the ground lost to graduation and the NFL.

If you include Bowden’s representation at two positions, Kentucky’s seven selections are more than Tennessee (6), Vanderbilt (6), Ole Miss (5), and Mississippi State (5). They are tied with LSU, Texas A&M, and Arkansas.

Do you believe Athlon’s selections are accurate? Are there any current Wildcats that you feel were snubbed from the list?
