UK Hoops loses Dorie Harrison to JUCO

Harrison was expected to have a big role next season.

UK Hoops forward Dorie Harrison will not return to the program for the 2019-20 academic year, head coach Matthew Mitchell announced Tuesday.

Harrison, who missed last season due to personal health reasons, has signed to play with Gulf Coast State Junior College this upcoming season.

“Dorie is an important member of our Kentucky family and we all fully support her and the steps she is taking,” said Mitchell.

While this doesn’t seem like a big loss on the surface, Harrison was expected to have a major role on next year’s team after a promising freshman season in 2017-18. That’s when Harrison played in 32 games with eight starts while averaging 6.7 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Harrison was even named the SEC Freshman of the Week after scoring 15 points with five rebounds vs. Alabama and 16 points with four rebounds at Arkansas.

With Taylor Murray and Maci Morris also graduating, there are some big roster questions heading into next season.

Thankfully, the Cats return National Freshman of the Year Rhyne Howard to build around for next season.
