Jemarl Baker generating a lot of interest from other schools

Baker is also planning to schedule visits soon.

Kentucky Wildcats guard Jemarl Baker announced that he’ll be transferring last month, and he’s about to take the next step in finding a new home.

This came as little surprise to many as it came just a few days after Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley announced their return to the school next year. Still, Baker had a really good end to the year and many thought he could play a big role as a veteran for Kentucky with the years to come.

With those two coming back, along with the addition of Tyrese Maxey, Keion Brooks, and Kahlil Whitney, it would have been really hard for Baker to find some minutes at either the two or the three.

So, he decided to enter the transfer portal. This hasn’t happened too much in the John Calipari era, though it has picked up in recent season. With the few that have done it, a couple of them have had some pretty great success. Charles Matthew played great at Michigan, and Kyle Wiltjer had an awesome career at Gonzaga.

Baker is hoping to be like one of those two, and there are plenty of schools that are interested in his potential services. Here’s a list that shows all of the schools that have reached out thus far:

Clearly, a lot of schools think Baker can come in and make a big impact at their programs. Also, it’s no surprise that nearly every school on this list is on the west coast. Baker is from California and has made it pretty clear that he’d like to move closer to home.

Either way, here’s to hoping Baker finds the best situation for himself as he moves forward in this next step of his life!
