The Kentucky Wildcats are making progress with one of their top targets in the Class of 2020.
Brandon “BJ” Boston is a 6-6, 175-pound shooting guard from Norcross (GA). He has shot up in the recruiting rankings for the 2020 class and currently sits at No. 11 in the 247 Sports rankings, No. 7 at Rivals and No. 6 at ESPN.
Previously, the Auburn Tigers and Duke Blue Devils had been getting a lot of buzz in this recruitment. Both schools have predictions from Rivals analysts, while the Blue Devils led the 247 Sports crystal ball with four predictions coming into today, including ones from recruiting gurus Jerry Meyer and Andrew Slater.
However, both Slater and Meyer just changed their predictions to Kentucky for Boston. It’s the first pro-UK predictions of any kind for Boston at Rivals or 247, so John Calipari must be making real progress in this recruitment.
In addition, getting Boston could help Kentucky gain more traction with five-star point guard Sharife Cooper. Those two are teammates on the AAU circuit, and they’ve even talked about playing together in Lexington.
Of course, Kentucky still has a long way to get just one of them, as Auburn is still believed to be the favorite for Cooper, while Duke will remain in contention for Boston. But seeing that there’s progress being made for just one of them is a positive development heading into the summer.
Among the other schools who’ve offered Boston include the Kansas Jayhawks, LSU Tigers, Florida Gators, Ohio State Buckeyes, UCLA Bruins and Texas Longhorns.
247 Sports compares Boston to former Blue Devil and current Lakers forward Brandon Ingram.
A long athlete who is still growing. Has good athleticism and a natural feel for the game. Lack of strength needs to improve, especially to be effective long term on the defensive end. Terrific scorer who is effective at all three levels. Has a nose for the ball and the length to be a dangerous rebounder. Has tremendous upside, which makes him a potential lottery pick.
