Kahlil Whitney will bring a “wow factor” to Lexington

Whitney is going to make plays next year that get fans out of their seats.

Coach Cal has been known to bring in the level of athletes that make plays that leave the fans speechless. Well, it looks like the next guy in line is going to be Kahlil Whitney.

In an article on Kentucky.com, Ben Roberts highlighted what Whitney brings to the table.

Whitney recently took part in the McDonald’s All-American Game, where he and future Wildcat Tyrese Maxey are already starting to figure each other out.

“Kahlil Whitney is very, very athletic,” Maxey said. “Today, I threw him a bad lob, and he still got up there and caught it and dunked. I was like, ‘Man, this dude here is very athletic.’ He’s very high energy. He’s able to play a lot of different positions. Very strong. Rebounds the ball well. I can’t wait to play with him”

Whitney blew up in his senior season, and that led to his rise in the rankings all the way up to No. 7 and catching the attention of his “dream school”, the Kentucky Wildcats.

Anthony Davis was my favorite player growing up. When I got that offer from Kentucky, it was amazing,” Whitney said. “It was like a dream come true. I couldn’t believe it, because everything came so fast. I was the No. 1 small forward in the country. Then I got the Kentucky offer. Then I committed. So, it was a lot of blessings that were bestowed upon me, and I was just thankful”

Kurt Keener is Whitney’s coach for the McDonald’s game, and he had good things to say about the young forward and believes he will do great things at Kentucky.

“He has that ‘wow’ factor,” Keener said. “He’s just a guy that has those things you can’t coach. You can’t coach that explosiveness, that length. He can score inside. He can score outside. And the more he gets comfortable with a system, the better off he’s going to be”

One thing that is certain is that Cal loves guys that bring it every day in practice and get after it on defense. I think we will see that the entire season next year when he is at Kentucky.

“Cal said I could be a monster on defense. And I love playing defense”

It looks like Whitney is going to be a perfect fit here in Lexington. I know I am extremely excited to see him take the floor next season, and I think the fans will be amazed at some of the plays we see him pull off throughout the year.
