It’s finally done.
RJ Hampton has officially reclassified into the Class of 2019, according to 247 Sports’ Evan Daniels, who adds that there’s now a final four list of schools in consideration: The Kentucky Wildcats, Memphis Tigers, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Kansas Jayhawks. Duke, who initially appeared to be the leader in this recruitment, was replaced with Texas Tech.
In a seperate piece, Hampton spoke with Jason Jordan of USA Today Sports about his plan moving forward now that his AAU career is over.
“I’m just focused on these schools,” Hampton said. “My plan is to get to all the schools really soon and talk to the coaches and then talk everything out with my family and make a decision.
“I’m excited to have this decision out of the way. Now I’ve got one more big decision to go.”
The belief has been that Kansas and Memphis were the teams to beat if Hampton did move into 2019. Hampton and his family really like Kentucky, but with Tyrese Maxey, Immanuel Quickley and Ashton Hagans in the fold, it’s likely going to be hard for John Calipari to convince the elite guard to come to Lexington for his likely one season of college hoops.
For now, it’s Memphis and Kansas who are getting the majority of predictions at 247 Sports and Rivals.
