Kentucky in contact with in-state star Justin Powell

Powell could be rising up the rankings very soon.

In-state star Justin Powell is one of the best of the best in Kentucky.

Over the first weekend of Nike’s AAU circuit, Powell averaged 15.8 points per game and went 10/17 from behind the arc.

And Kentucky has taken notice.

In an interview with Ben Roberts from Kentucky.com, Powell said that the Kentucky Wildcats have been in contact with him.

“‘They’ve been coming at me a little bit,” Powell said. “Obviously, it’s a great program — big blue-blood program. And they’re obviously the best of the best. So it would be pretty cool.’”

Kentucky hosted Powell for an unofficial during the Tennessee game at Rupp back February.

Powell also said that schools like Auburn, Tennessee, Xavier, and Georgia Tech have been coming after him as of now.

However. Powell is looking to have a quick recruitment and decide on a school before his senior year at North Oldham. Powell said he is looking to visit schools by the end of the summer and make his decision shortly after that.

If Kentucky wants to get serious about bringing in another in-state star, now is the time, just as was the case last year with Dontaie Allen. It took Allen having a big summer in the AAU circuit to score an offer from John Calipari.

If Powell is going to get that offer, he’s really gonna need to ball out in the coming months.
